The Research Centre for Atlantic and International History organises, with its partners and throughout the academic year, a series of scientific events (please consult the yearly programme). Theses symposiums, workshops, conferences or seminars allow us to develop research on promising topics and may be subject to publication. Thanks to the high quality of its events, the CRHIA can participate in European, national or regional calls for proposals.

Zoom on a workshop

planned January 24, 2013 08:30 am to 5:00 pm

CRHIA annual seminar

CRHIA members organise an annual seminar in collaboration with PhD students and the Master Degree "Relations Internationales et Histoire du Monde Atlantique". Each year, three or four sessions are planned and give the opportunity to Professors, Senior lecturers or PhD students to speak on the annual theme. This seminar is mainly reserved to CRHIA members and to PhD and Master Degree students.

STARACO - Social status, and colours in the Atlantic space from the Antiquity to nowadays

The STARACO project aims at creating a four-year historical reflection on social status and skin colours differences and, on the historical creation of the "races" concept and  the resulting hierarchies, from the Antiquity to nowadays. The study of the construction of "racial hierarchies" in the Atlantic space will be a way of rethinking the relations between Europe and people in the "South" as well as the emergence of prejudices of colour or "race", which still affect European societies today.

STARACO is organised around four main themes :

  • The impurity issue in Atlantic societies
  • The colour or "race" minorities issue
  • The liberty and slavery issue
  • The migrations and cosmopolitism issue in the cities of the Atlantic space

The project started in January, 2013.
